Loading ...Punk rocker Billy Idol originally recorded Mony Mony in 1981 and it became a staple of his live show. When he released a live version of the song in 1987, it went all the way to number 1 on the charts. Mony Mony was originally written and recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1968. You’ll notice in the video that Billy mouths the infamous “chant” inbetween verses.
