Rupert Holmes is the only artist to have the same song ascend to #1 in two different decades as Escape hit #1 in late 1979, then dropped to #2 in January of 1980 before rising back again to #1 in late January 1980. Here’s a vintage performance of the song. Rupert is NOT a one hit wonder having hit #6 with his song Him as well as having a successful career writing Broadway musicals.
