The Rolling Stones go disco! Well sort of. Disco influenced for sure. Emotional Rescue, from the album of the same name has that incredible Mick Jagger falsetto over the thumping Ronnie Wood bassline. The song is often covered by popular jam band Phish, a particularly long version can be found on their Hampton Comes Alive live album.

Stars on 45 were a Dutch pop act. They had a novelty hit with their medley of disco and Beatles songs in 1981 called the Stars on 45 Medley. Actually the full real title of this song is “Medley: “Intro” / “Venus” / “Sugar Sugar” / “No Reply” / “I’ll Be Back” / “Drive My Car” / “Do You Want to Know a Secret” / “We Can Work It Out” / “I Should Have Known Better” / “Nowhere Man” / “You’re Going to Lose That Girl” / “Stars on 45″. And that is the longest official song title to ever top the Billboard charts.

Lipps Inc hit the charts massively with Funkytown. Many consider Funkytown to be the last disco song to top the charts in the US, signaling the end of the disco era as the song subtly brought in the electro-synth electronica. Won’t you take me to….Funkytown.
